I discovered these two concepts while researching about blogs and they both fascinate me. Social currency is how you learn or store bits of information or interesting links etc. in the context of a blog so that you will have shared or interesting things to talk about. I think this is how memes are relevant to the way we are communicating in the digital age. I read about this in the book 'You've got blog' I'll try and find out who came up with the idea when I get more of a chance.
'continuous partial attention' (introduced to me from Stone, L. (c2006). Wikihome - JotSpot Wiki (continuous partial attention) is defined as
"...To pay continuous partial attention is to pay partial attention -- CONTINUOUSLY. It is motivated by a desire to be a LIVE node on the network. Another way of saying this is that we want to connect and be connected. We want to effectively scan for opportunity and optimize for the best opportunities, activities, and contacts, in any given moment. To be busy, to be connected, is to be alive, to be recognized, and to matter."
This idea seemed to recognise a pattern I have sometime seen in my own behaviour and I wonder if it is going to be a future trend in peoples information seeking behaviour. That is all...
