I have been further exploring the issues of blogs. Another book came in for me at the library.
Kline, D. a. B., Dan (c2005). Blog! : how the newest media revolution is changing politics, business, and culture. New York, CDS Books.
David Kline has an accompanying web site at http:\\www.blogrevolt.com
Anyhow the book was pretty good. I liked reading about people who were involved in funding technorati. I also looked up blog and wiki in the wikipedia. Blogs had a list of terms used by bloggers which was pretty good reading.
I liked reading about 'linksluts', 'fram', and 'blikis' (a blend of blogs and wikis).
I also read about this guy Juichi Ito who has a fairly popular 'A-list level blog' at Jui Ito's Web. He has lots about mash ups and Japan which amuses me. I also read a lot more about the folksonomy based system used by Technorati to measure the blogosphere and how it is indexing parts of the web that google hasn't got to yet. I am also fascinated with the dark side of the web and all the anti matter of the web. In other words those site that have not yet been indexed by any search engines.
My seed of an idea on the future of librarians
A librarian of the future may be involved in the setting up of a clients bliki and filtering software. So that they receive personalised web content and RSS feeds and technorati blog feeds based on the results of the reference interview with their librarian.
Basically this is the role that higher level 'linkslut' based blogs are filling now. Filtering information down to the users. I am finding it interesting how various people are talking about push and pull based applications and I guess the concepts all focus on providing information that is increasingly convenient and timely for the end user.
