(my bad translation of the Japanese - No thanks.... but can I have a bit.)
No thanks but I'll have some yours. Makiko is fond of this philosophy. I don't know if anyone has friends or family who do this. When you ask them directly if they want something (like dessert) they say no. But then when you serve yourself and sit down next to them they finally decide they want some and pick small pieces off your plate. What is up with that?
I went out today with Carmen and friends to celebrate her birthday. I started thinking again about how the way people eat expresses some of their inner psyche. Some people like me are linear eaters and generally eat all of one type of food offered before starting on another portion of the dish. Other people like to nibble around the edges or eat some of everything first. Some people eat sandwiches by eating all the crusts off first, others don't. Then there is the whole debate on cakes, icing first, leave the base, eat the middle and icing together etc.
